[Program Note]

This sonata for violin and piano is named ‘Spring’ after a beautiful piece of writing by Professor Jung-ho Choi (Guest Senior Journalist of Dong-A Ilbo). Composer Jeajoon Ryu was inspired by Professor Choi’s projections of soft and romantic spring images when he completed the sonata. The music consists of three movements and generally follows the sonata form. The first movement was structured like the poetic flow of Professor Choi’s writing. The second movement can be considered the main movement of the piece as it took the greatest amount of time to compose; it deconstructs and reconstructs the line ‘The lake water rolls / Let spring flow” into a musical crystalloid. The romantic and flexible melody embraces the piece with the warmth of spring as the sequences continue to extend and project the images of spring. The third movement is in scherzo form and illustrates the beautiful spring scenery of Namsan.
