    Ryu’s Piano Trio, “The Early Summer” was written in a completely different mood than his magnificent and explosive Sinfonia da Requiem. With its lyrical and rhythmic stability, it offers relaxation and happiness. This change was already indicated signs on his Violin Sonata, “Spring” and the Overture “Il nome della rosa”. Finally, the Cello Concerto abundantly demonstrates his zesty lyricism. The style became clearer in distinguishing each section and more rich in various colors and rhythmic patterns.
    When the Trio was premiered in Europe, Avri Levitan said, “ I cannot find words to express the beauty of the work,” and Penderecki remarked, “This piece sounds like knocking to open the gate toward the new world!” The work was commissioned by the Seoul Festival Ensemble in 2009 and was revised for the European premiere. The third revised version is to be heard tonight.
